A group project sounds great to me - I will be thinking about a project also.  Pillowcases do seem like a good idea

Hi All! I was thinking of a "round robin" of sorts so that we could all put our fingerprints on it. Is there a way that we could do this & still donate?

Good morning to all - I agree with anita - it would take a commitment from all to do this project - I would be glad to send a block or two - just let me know where to send.  I actually have a couple of ideas - I have several orphan blocks, do you?  Might make a great scrappy quilt.  Now to the discussion   Project Linus is a wonderful organization and had done sew much for several years (lots of support world wide) however, I do know the need is great for children that are in crisis.  Dallas, TX has a group that supplies the basic necessities for children of the homeless - I believe it is Rainbow Days ( I can find out).  Parents have to have the children to the building very early in the morning.  The children and fed, showered, clean clothes and taken to school.  Closing time they return to their families, many sleep on the street or in a car.  I am sure there are organizations like this in many of the cities.  Please, I am not against Project Linus - I just know there are a lot of small groups doing great things for the children.  I know there are pro's and con's about the homeless, and we all have our opinions, but there are parents out there that have lost jobs, homes, and their children are their main concern.  OK - off my soap box - I am on board for any group project and I have lots of fabric if anyone needs any extra

The pillow case idea is great and so is the quilt, but I don't know how to quilt.

Hi Everyone - I live in the Dallas area also. I would like to participate in a project. I use to sew for the Littlest Angels and made clothes for newborns of the homeless. The clothes went to Parkland and Children's Medical Center. It was very rewarding. The group dissolved. I also did simple lap quilts with a group for the soldiers that came home injured and hospitalized. I have a lot of fabric and love to sew. There are a lot of good projects. It was a lot of fun getting together and sewing. I felt so sad when I heard about a child in Afghanistan carrying a stick wrapped in a rag for a doll. So many of those children have never had a doll. There is a web site that has free patterns and rules about making these dolls. Just thought I might mention this.

Hi Anita,

I like your idea about dolls for the homeless in the US. The dolly hugs doll might be a good pattern. It is easy, attractive, and away to use up our small pieces of left over fabric. The homeless children probably need a hug from a doll. The fun part of making dolls is that each doll has its own personality that develops while making it.     http://www.nonidolls.com/dollystories.html

anita - Rainbow Days does have a website, which I checked and they have really grown - and it looks like they have changed some - one of their projects is 350 backpacks - for back to school.  Not for sure what has happened to the group that fed the kids and got them to school - but I am sure there  is a group in most cities.
I have been thinking about the quilt and the pillowcases - how about we actually do both?  the pillow case is a "quick to sew project" - Maybe we could each make a pillowcase now out our holiday fabric scraps before we put them away for a while?  3/4 yd fabric a, 1/4 yd fabric b makes one pillowcase. Just my "today" thoughts on the group project.
