Hi Jessica!
Unfortunately, we won't be having the prom contest this year, but we will be having other contests -- stay tuned!

I'm very upset that Joanns will not be having the prom contest this year.  My daughter entered the contest in 2010 and 2011.  So many of her freinds were amazed that she could make dress that they liked.  Some of the girls started to ask their grandmothers for sewing lessons.  This year, two girls asked her to make a semi formal dresses.

I beleive that sewing is a dying art, and young people need to be engaged and attracted the craft.

I agree, and soon people, as in the next generation wouldnt be interesting in sowing and arts stuff that they have at joanns. if you dont get the young people interested in it, then your gonna lose alot of customers over the years to come. and that's just something the company's going to have to deal with, but i do believe the making your own prom dress contest was a really good way to get young people's interest it certainly got mine, and some of my friends. I think you joanns could have kept going it could have been a real hit, and a lot of income and profit for joanns. just sayingUndecided

Just a thought - why not challenge yourself to make a really great prom dress?  Maybe also make some great accessories.  I think only one person would have won the contest had there been one.  But anybody can be a winner making a dress or outfit that could get raves from other prom goers.........

I think it is wonderful how creative you young woman are!  yeah!  I do hope you design your dresses and post them so we can see.  I know in our area here in southern Indiana 4h is really big and there is always a category for formal wear so... there might be other contests.  Good luck and keep creating! AND don't forget to share your pictures!!!!!

I am extremely distressed that you won't be holding the Prom Contest this year. Like Jessica, I have been looking forward this since the end of my sophomore year and was waiting to enter in my senior year to make it special. I do still plan on making my prom dress-I have it panned and laid out in detail already- but I was also hoping that this would give me an edge for scholarships and some much needed college funds. I have been accepted to SCAD and am pending an application to FIT for fashion design. I was really hoping for this opportunity and I believe you, JoAnns as a company are really missing out on a great opportunity to influence young designing, creative teenagers. You gained much respect from me when I first heard about this contest two years ago but I will have to say you have lost it again by letting down many encouraged girls.

Hi everyone
We're actually changing up a lot of our contests this year (including having a Facebook photo contest soon). We'd love you all to participate. I will definitely let our team know about your concerns and thank you for commenting! -Kim @ Jo-Ann
