prom scholarship?

I have been trying to find information on the prom dress scholarship for this year. I know that it was available last year, but i can't find anything about it for this year. Is it not being run this year? or am I looking in all the wrong places?

Horrible Class Experience at Joann's Store

I'm posting this to warn anyone thinking about taking a class with Joann Stores.

I signed up for a sewing class at the Brandywine, MD Store over two weeks in advance. I held off buying materials until the Thursday evening before the Saturday class, because I knew that there was a chance that it would be cancelled.

In that time I tried to reach the "Education Coordinator" at the store for some information about pattern sizing. I called 5 times in a week and a half, never able to reach this mysterious person, Rosanna. Not once did a person offer to take a message, they just kept saying "call back".

Having heard nothing from the store about the class by Thursday for a Saturday class, I went ahead and bought the apx $25 in materials for the class. Went home and pre-washed the fabric for the class (as instructed) so that it would be dry in time for Saturday.

Then on Friday, barely 24 hours before the class the mysterious Rosanna left a message to say the class was cancelled. And believe it or not, that is the store policy - 24 Hours Notice.

Now I'm stuck with fabric that I can't return because I washed it and the thread that goes with it. I don't know how much later I could have waited to buy my materials and still get it washed and dry by classtime than what I did.

24 hours is a ridiculous timeframe for cancellation. And for a company that is trying to have such a big push about classes, they should have a policy of if there is even one person signed up for the class, they will teach it. Especially since the instructor was someone who already works for the store.

So that is my warning to everyone -- don't buy materials before 24 hours in advance of your class, or you too will be cheated out of your money.

I was looking at the pattern for the calico apron, skill level 2. It has curved pockets. It states to "trace and transfer pocket pattern to pattern paper". I can not find the pocket pattern to trace. Am I just not finding it? Can someone help?

Question about Jo-Ann sewing

Hi all, I am brand-new here, but I just have a quick question. I'm trying to get into sewing some of my own clothes, as I have a hard time finding things to my taste in stores. I was wondering if the sewing center in Jo-Ann's is available for anyone to use or if you have to be taking a class there? I need a few minutes with a serger to finish a project, and right now, buying my own machine is a little out of reach. Thanks for any help!!

Decorating help needed

I made a small cornice for a bedroom window, using styrofoam. My hubby suggested using Velcro to attach it to the wall, but I can't find a Velcro that would work for both fabric and the wall surface. Any suggestions?

In search of heavy jersey knit

I am somewhat new to sewing, and but I'm on FIRE for it and my inability to find the fabric I'm looking for is becoming a wet blanket! Can anyone tell me where I can find some heavier cotton or even hemp jersey fabric? I'd rather not dye it myself if I can avoid it (for hemp) but I'm willing to take that on if necessary. I'd like something that's almost sweatshirt weight and I can't find it at Joann's or Hobby Lobby (haven't tried Hancock)... online resource is ok but I'd like to go somewhere and touch it to in order to be sure before I buy a lot of it. Maybe I'm not calling it by the right name, is there a name for that fabric that I don't have right so my searches aren't yeilding results?

Military Appreciation Discount

There was a discussion thread back in 2010 that Jo Ann's was looking into starting a military appreciation discount? Do you know if they have implemented one yet. I have started shopping at Hancocks because they offer a 20% discount on the second the second Wednesday of every month. And it is off your entire purchase. I like Jo Ann's selection better but 20% off is nice.

Quilting Help needed

Hi everyone,

I'm a total newbie to scrapbooking. I'm just a really creative teenager looking for something to keep me busy. Right now, I had this really good idea for a patriotic scrapbook. It's basically a book filled with songs, poetry, quotes, photographs, and artwork that express the United States. However, I wanted it to be more than just a binder with printed papers. I wanted to scrapbook this stuff.

Does anyone have any good ideas?

I have no idea where to start.

Lost color key for Mother's sunshine cross stitch kit

Hello, I was wondering if there's any way I could get a copy of instructions, and the color/thread key for the Counted Cross Stitch kit called Mother's Sunshine (code 43730). I think my son accidentally threw it away during the Christmas cleaning and I would really like to complete the picture, it's beautiful. I wanted to give it to my mom for her 55th birthday.

Would anybody happen to have any advice on how to get the key? Bucilla apparently discontinued the product and purged all their documents but I was hoping another member here may still have the kit and perhaps photocopy the color key? I'll reimburse the cost. Looking forward to seeing replies.

How to fix clothing with bleach spots

My partner JUST told me he got bleach on himself at work. I've been researching and racking my brain, and the only option I can find that seems viable is to get a color remover and then redye the clothing afterward. I'm hoping and assuming that it's a legit option, but does anyone know if that will actually work?
